I was in Volgograd for 2 days, and rather than try to find my way around the various sites alone I decided on a guide. This was a very good decision. Mikhail from Sputnik Travel/Stalingrad Tours, a native of Volgograd, lives and breathes the history of the place. He is passionate about his subject and rightly proud to be a citizen of the city that saved the world from Hitler at such tremendous sacrifice. I found it extremely useful having such a guide. Had I gone, for example, to the Motherland Calls statue by myself it would have been an incredible experience. But Mikhail was able to explain very interesting symbolism among the stunning artworks that make up the complex which otherwise I would not have appreciated. The same goes for the 360 degree panorama at the museum. It too is a hugely impressive work of art. But Mikhail was able to point out small details of the battle on it and explain the stories of heroism behind them. These would otherwise have been lost on me. He also took me to some out of the way places, which I very much doubt I would have found on my own, including searching the battlefield for relics. I found several, including spent cartridges, medicine phials, batteries etc.

Went to visit scenes of battle of Stalingrad with a friend who is also an enthusiast. We were delighted with the services provided by Volgograd Sputnik. Mikhail provided everything that we needed to arrange visas and offered help to organise accommodation - it couldn't have been easier! We opted for a three day battlefield tour, which was very comprehensive and covered the museums, key locations and major monuments. Our tour guide arrived promptly every day to collect us from our hotel in a clean, comfortable and well maintained car. Mikhail was extremely knowledgeable and used information from books and personal accounts, gleaned from veterans of the battle, to bring events of late 1942 and early 1943 to life. His commentaries made it much easier for us to comprehend and absorb the key events and significance of the battle. We are happy to fully recommend Volgograd Sputnik's services and would use the company again if we were to return to the city.

My father Joe Hand would like me to let everyone know in his own words. This was "Absolutely, the best trip of my life. This is the best money I have ever spent more than worth the price. These guys were courteous, honest, and knowledgeable. They gave us a complete tour of all the sites and explained in great detail each site to us. They gave us all the time we needed to feel like we could absorb and appreciate each site. We were completely astounded with what we saw and did. Every person on planet Earth should take this tour. On a scale of 1 to 10 we give it a 20! May God bless you for what you did for us, we shall never forget you." Joe Hand. Personally, I can't thank you enough for taking care of my parents. My experience booking this tour with you for them was TOP NOTCH! Thanks guys.

I have been there. Mikhail is a professional, accommodating guide, very knowledgeable of WWII history and Stalingrad battlefield. Volgograd (former Stalingrad) is also a very pleasant city, with a lot of classical USSR architecture/buildings which in themselves alone are worth a visit. I have found the people to be as well simple and very kind/nice. I would definitely come back for a longer stay. :) "Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it."

I spent a day with Mikhail in May 2014. I had an excellent time, Mikhail was extremely knowledgeable, I learned a lot from him. He showed me some wonderful sites like the Soldiers Cemetary at Rossoschka. We walked the battlefields, went into some dugouts and found actual artillery/ other military equipment remains from the battle. I told some friends at the hotel that evening who had taken another tour and we covered a lot more sights. I highly recommend Mikhail and his company.

My trip to the former Stalingrad was a dream come true. Having been fascinated with this terrible battle since childhood, I always wanted to see the city first-hand. This October I was able to do so - but without the excellent three day tour put on by Mikhail from Volgograd-Sputnik tours, I would have missed so much! Mikhail is an excellent guide, and obviously has dedicated himself to helping others understand what took place here. He is extremely knowledgeable about the battle here and in the surrounding area. His English language skills are perfect, and he readily answered everyone one of my questions. As a professor of Military History, I was extremely impressed with his knowledge. I'll be returning this summer to Volgograd, and will definitely be calling on his expertise again. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. It is money well invested! Thanks Mikhail and see you soon!

Amazing tour of Stalingrad and surrounding areas

My father and I visited Stalingrad in 2015. In planning the trip I found Volgograd Sputnik Travel Company, in reading their tour packages and reviews, I decided they were the group to go with. They did not disappoint, the first day Mikhail picked us up at the airport and took us to the German Soviet memorial. The following two days Tamara took us all over the city. Her first hand knowledge growing up in Stalingrad during the Soviet period was great. She mentioned that one year she helped build one of the memorials we went to. She said that during the summers, school children were given two options, class or work, so one summer she worked on building the memorial.

If you are planing a trip to Stalingrad. I highly recommend Mikhail's team at Volgograd Sputnik Travel Company. If I get a chance to return to Stalingrad, I will be using Volgograd Sputnik Travel Company without a doubt.

Date of experience: May 2015

This tour was amazing! We asked for a one-day personalised itenary and they were extremely helpful and met our every request. Our guide Mikhail was incredible. Very knowledgeable and passionate allowing us the get a real feeling for this unbelievable event. We were transported in a lovely air conditioned car and were able to take refreshment breaks whenever we fancied. We visited all the mind-blowing sites. Rossoshka is a must! We would thoroughly recommend a visit to Volgograd and this battlefields tour. Memories that will last forever! Thank you.
